Quiché Baptists Start Radio Program in Nahualá
In an area of western Guatemala that historically has been very antagonistic toward the Gospel, a new weekly three-hour Baptist radio program is opening doors to witness.
IMB missionaries Roger and Vicki Grossman, along with Quiché missionaries have started a weekly three-hour radio program in the town of Nahualá, north of Lake Atitlán.
“This is an area that is very closed, but through this ministry, we are seeing doors open,” says Vicki. Quiché missionaries Luís, Marco and Jorge produce the program. Aside from Christian music, they teach what they’ve learned from Roger in the Quiché Bible Institute along with social topics such as health and the family. “They are doing an excellent job,” says Roger.
MBI is providing this radio team with an external hard drive full of radio programming in Spanish.
Baptist Station in Guatemala Needs Video Projector
Baptist radio station Campur Stereo 91.9 FM in Guatemala uses Christian movies promoted on the station as a means of outreach and to meet people hungry for the Gospel up close and personal. “We have to rent the video projector, and that limits what we can do,” says station manager Federico Coc Caal.
The JESUS video has been translated into K’ekchi’, and there are several excellent Christian videos that are explicitly evangelistic, such as “¿Con Quién Te Vas?” (With Whom Will You Go?); “La Liberación de María Magdalena” (The Liberation of Mary Magdalena); “El Hombre Dios” (The God Man); “Desafío a los Gigantes” (Facing the Giants); “A Prueba de Fuego” (Fireproof) and “Ropa Nueva para Felipe” (New Clothes for Phillip).
The station, which in December celebrated its 10th anniversary on the air, has moved into a nice concrete block building with control room, studio, office and storage area. They previously had a modest frame house. There are three Baptist congregations in the Campur area, and a total of 30 Baptist churches in the station’s coverage area.
I produced a 60-second spot congratulating the station on its 10th anniversary and Emailed it to them as an attachment. How far we’ve come since the days when there were only a few landline telephones in the whole K’ekchi’ area—and you had to shout to be heard! In the past, I would have had to put the spot on a CD and send it in the mail—hoping and praying that it gets there—about three weeks later!
This station has some very pressing equipment needs—foremost among them is a video projector. They also need a new audio mixer, a dual CD player, two microphones and a new or used laptop computer.
Thank You!

Evangelist & Wife Donate Transmission Equipment
Roger and Vicki Barnett of Kountze, TX have donated a used Studio to Transmitter Link (STL) and an RPU (Remote Programming Unit) for remote broadcasts and some coaxial cable. This will be utilized where a station’s studio is in town, and the transmitter and tower are several miles away. The RPU unit will help a station broadcast live worship services and rallies. This will not only help the outreach of those churches, but will generate much needed income for the station. I had a delightful visit with Rodney and Vicki in early March when I picked up the equipment. Rodney is an incredible evangelist!
Radio Amistad Celebrates Its 13th Anniversary!
Radio Amistad, the station with the largest listening audience around Lake Atitlán in Guatemala is celebrating 13 years of broadcasting the Gospel.
In addition to Spanish, Radio Amistad broadcasts from San Pedro La Laguna in three indigenous languages—Tzutujil, Cakchiquel and Quiché. It has an estimated audience of 10,000 listeners from 5:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Some 30 pastors or lay ministers have programs on the station.
Radio Amistad 90.7 FM, is owned and operated by the Getsemani Baptist Church whose beloved pastor is Isaac Batz. Besides the radio station, this church has a school with 400 students (First through 12th grade) and is starting a ministry to teach local residents how to raise chickens and to plant gardens that will help keep their families healthy. Getsemani also has an excellent music education program with graded choirs.
